Natural Mold Removal – Killing Black Mold The Organic Way
Those who opt for natural mold removal might be environmentally conscious or might not trust the chemicals in regular cleaners used against mold. They are cautious with good reason. Many of the chemicals found in regular household cleaners can trigger allergic reactions and produce toxins that are dangerous just like the toxins in mold.
Carcinogens, which cause or promote cancers, endocrine disruptors and neurotoxins, have given the average consumer more than enough cause to seek environmentally friendly alternatives against mold growth.
There are quite a few natural remedies for black mold removal. Most involve the use of natural or herbal products that are effective in helping you remove mold spores from your home. Here are three tested natural or organic mold remover items you can try to remove mold:
Vinegar
Vinegar is a common household product and it is considered a good way to clean by many green experts. One warning, though, is that vinegar car irritate your hands and leave a strong, sour smell, so it is best to use gloves when you use it. You should scrub the surface that has the mold with the vinegar detergent. Place the vinegar in a spray bottle, spray the surface and let it soak. Use a brush to scrub the surface and let it completely dry. Repeat the process until you are sure the mold is gone.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has a very strong smell, but it is one of the most powerful natural antiseptics you can find. You do not need to use much of it (a little goes a long way). In a spray bottle, combine two teaspoons of the oil in two cups of water. Shake it to make sure it is mixed well. Spray the molded area, but do not rinse the solution off of the surface. It needs to stay in order to attack the mold. The smell will be extremely strong for a while, but it will eventually fade. Your primary goal is to get rid of the mold, so you may have to endure the smell while that happens.
Citrus Seed Extract
Do not confuse this with citrus based cleaners, citrus cleaners usually are not ideal for mold and should be be purchased as a citrus mold remover.
If the smell of tea tree oil is unbearable for you, you might want to consider making a citrus seed extract for fighting the mold in your house. It has a clear advantage over tea tree oil because it is odorless. In a spray bottle, mix 20 drops of citrus seed extract in two cups of water. Shake well and apply to the molded areas. As with the tea tree oil, do not rinse the citrus solution off of the affected area. It will need to be in its full concentration to do its proper work. You can find tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract in most health food stores.
Your desire to use natural mold removal should not cut out an official mold inspection. You still must make sure that the damage done by the mold is not terribly extensive and that you locate the source of the mold problem. Natural remedies can be used on a regular basis as an ongoing defense against mold. Use it during regular cleaning to keep mold at a minimum and help you breathe cleaner air in your own house.
